Raymond J. Trabbic, Sr.

Raymond James Trabbic passed away peacefully on February 20, 2016 in the loving care of his sweetheart, Iva “Cookie”. Ray was born in Toledo on March 9, 1938 to Raymond and Mildred Trabbic. He attended Devilbiss High School and graduated in 1956. Ray was the 1st to obtain a varsity letter in woodshop and became a journeyman in the woodworking trade. His skill and talent were impressive and loved his woodworking shop where he created everything from baby cradles to holiday lawn displays. He married the love of his life, Cookie on June 18, 1960. Ray worked at GM Powertrain for 37 years and was an active UAW member. He and his family spent many weekends at their cottage in the Irish Hills where he would enjoy another of his many passions, fishing. Ray was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, boating, hunting and fishing; especially on Lake Erie. After retiring from Powertrain, Ray added another activity in his already busy schedule, he became a licensed 1st Mate on a Lake Erie fishing charter boat where he would spend many hours helping folks enjoy some walleye fishing. Ray was a Friend of Bill W. for over 30 years and remained active in his group, mentoring and sponsoring many souls along the way. Ray never met a stranger. He had an easy laugh, a quick wit and a kind and generous nature. His sense of humor kept family and friends in stitches and he always had a story to tell. Ray enjoyed his wife and daughter’s cooking. His sweet tooth was legendary. Ray’s lawn was always green and meticulous; he was a master gardener who shared vegetables from his garden with all. Ray could fix and build just about anything. From remodeling kitchens, basements, and building garages to plumbing, electrical and engine repair, he loved the challenge. He offered and taught his skills to others. With all his interests and talents, Ray’s main focus and love of his life was his family. He and Cookie worked hard over the years to provide a good life for their family. If he could help his kids with anything, he would not hesitate. Ray would be there. Ray is preceded in death by his mother and father, Mildred and Raymond Trabbic, and his brother, Ron Trabbic. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Iva Trabbic. He is also survived by his children; Cindy (Mike) Tippett, Raymond (Cheryl) Trabbic, and Mike (Lynn) Trabbic; his grandchildren, Tim and Nick Trabbic, Elizabeth Tippett, Michelle and Ray Trabbic, Hannah and Rachel Tippett, Jeremiah Grady; 8 great-grandchildren. Ray is also survived by sister-in law, Nancy Trabbic , nephews and niece as well as many dear friends. His family would like to thank Ebeid Hospice and the caring staff including, Renee and Holly; and especially his nurse, Karen, who helped ease Ray’s journey. Memorial contributions may be made to Ebeid Hospice in Ray’s memory. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Thursday, February 25th from 2-8 p.m. where a Scripture Service will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 26th, beginning at 9:30 a.m., in the mortuary, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
