Noel Ryan

Noel Ryan, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026. She was born on December 25, 1932, in Owosso, Michigan, to Aloysious and Gladys Stotenbur. Noel had one brother who she loved dearly. She told stories about how funny he was and loved to tell stories to their friends. After marrying, she moved from Owosso to Toledo, Ohio. She lived in Toledo until her passing on to Heaven. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aloysious and Gladys Stotenbur, her brother, James Stotenbur, and her youngest son, Patrick, preceded her in death in 1983. Noel is survived by her children: Mary (the late Tom) Ryan-Bulone, Anne (Eric) Mendez, Robert Ryan, and James Ryan. She also leaves behind three very loved grandsons, Peter, Samuel, and Michael Mendez who called her Gabo. She also loved and treasured her nieces, Cindy, Lisa, and Monique. Noel graduated from the University of Detroit Dental School in 1951. She was proud of becoming a dental hygienist. She went back to part-time work after her children were old enough. Her favorite hobby, besides eating ice cream, was shopping to find the deals. She worked hard to make a great life for her children with the home. She recovered furniture to give it a fresh look; she moved small trees from a ravine and replanted them in the lawn. She could fix plumbing, as well as most things around the house. She was an excellent cook. She learned so much growing up watching and working with her dad. She also loved traveling with her family, and thanks to her sons she saw much of this country. Her daughters loved to share time with her on the west coast and northern Michigan visiting and sightseeing with her grandsons. Some years ago, she was a key "Davis Mom" at Davis University. She loved to help her daughter who worked there by volunteering to help out at the various student events. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Ohio Living/Swan Creek, Toledo, where she spent the last 16 months of her life. She loved to smile at the aides and nurses who took care of her because she was always treated so well. One of her favorite memories was at lunch and dinner when they always remembered her chocolate ice cream. As food goes, she thought that chocolate ice cream was the only food group. Noel will be deeply missed by many and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Wednesday, April 22, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Rosary will be said at 6 PM that evening. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m., Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 6149 Hill Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, 43615.
