Mary Elizabeth Carroll

Mary Elizabeth Carroll, born July 23, 1961, died early in the morning of August 20, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was the 10th of eleven children born to Thomas Thurlow Carroll and Jeanne Frances Hollowed Carroll. She was the very proud mother of Kelly (Brandon) Cornett and Trevor Dermyer. She lived in Richmond and Emmett, MI, returning to Toledo where she was employed by ProMedica Health System since 2000. She graduated from Sylvania Northview High school in 1979. From her earliest days, Mary chose her own pathway and, even as a baby, was often found wandering blissfully near the family home in the Old West End. She had artistic inclinations and was an accomplished dancer. Kindness was her personal hallmark and, beyond family and friends, it was extended easily and regularly to lost dogs, stray cats, and horses. Most recent feline, Bella, survives her. Mary loved to cook and to share the tasty benefit of her efforts. Summers and holiday weekends were spent at Portage Lake, MI. the site of many memorable and happy family gatherings playing exuberant rounds of Charades and making s'mores by the bonfire to pass a cool evening night. She was loved deeply. Mary is survived by her siblings Marjie Berg, Denver, CO; John (Maria) Carroll, Mulino, OR and Manistee, MI; Kathleen Carroll (Carl) White; Matthew (Margaret) Carroll, Seattle, WA; Brian (Marcia) Carroll, Portland, OR; Colleen (Edward) Alexander, Temperance, MI; Peter (Connie) Carroll, Kalamazoo, MI; Kevin Carroll, Sylvania; and Sheila (Stephan) Perry of Cincinnati. Her adoring nieces and nephews are many, including: Steven (Shaune) Berg; Jennifer (Thomas) Dale; Ryan (Cara) Berg; Adam and Jonathon Zapiecki; Andrew (Angela) and Nicolas Carroll; Katherine Rose Carroll, Bryton and Alexander Zuelke, Brendan, Molly and Sean Carroll; Bridgitte, Hanna and Patrick Carroll; Madeline, Caroline and Braden Perry. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Roger. Friends may visit at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road, on Saturday, August 24th from 11 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 2 p.m. Interment will be private. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Toledo Humane Society.
