Francis C. Restivo

The Honorable Francis “Buddy” Restivo, retired Lucas County Common Pleas Judge and veteran public servant, died peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and children on July 2, 2013. Born to the late Joseph and Mary (Mercurio) Restivo in Toledo on September 4, 1921, Judge Restivo graduated from Central Catholic High School and the University of Toledo, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate from the College of Law in 1949. Serving in World War II, he was a member of the U.S. Air Force 136th Radio Intelligence Squadron. Prior to his 1971 appointment to the bench in Toledo Municipal Court, he held numerous elected and appointed public service positions. Judge Restivo’s numerous honors and affiliations include: National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Toledo Man of the Year; Outstanding Alumnus of the UT College of Law; UT Blue T Award; Golden Shamrock Award of Central Catholic High School; VFW Goldstein-Goodman Post citation; Old Newsboys Association; and the Catholic War Veterans. Judge Restivo is survived by his wife, Jane (Anistik), married 70 years on July 10, 1943; daughters, Janet (David) Krzyminski, Deborah (Thomas) Bennett, Bernadette Restivo, and son, Joseph (Beth) Restivo, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-children, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road, on Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 5 pm to 8 pm, and Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 2 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will begin on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 9:30 am in the mortuary followed by the the Funeral Mass at St. Joan of Arc Parish, 5856 Heatherdowns Boulevard, at 10 am. The Reverend Monsignor Michael Billian and Father Adam Hertzfeld will be concelebrants. Entombment will be at Toledo Memorial Park. The family suggest tributes in lieu of flowers be made to the Francis and Jane Restivo Scholarship Funds at the University of Toledo College of Law or Central Catholic High School, or St. Francis de Sales High School. The family would like to thank ProMedica Hospice and the caring staff of The Legacy at The Lakes of Monclova, for the loving care they provided to Bud and his family.
