Dorothy Mae Sinkovic

Dorothy May Sinkovic, 93, lovingly known to everyone as Dolly, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2022. Dolly was born in Toledo, Ohio to William and Sophie Gontarski on February 14, 1929. She graduated from Woodward High School. After raising three sons, she worked for many years in the activity department at Villa North Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna and the parish Marian Society, and later the parish of St. Rose in Perrysburg, Ohio. Dolly had a lifelong love of nature and the outdoors; her favorite hobby was fishing. Strictly catch and release, after a quick photo with the biggest, back in the water they went. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. If there was a baby within reach it was in her arms and she would be filled with joy. After suffering a stroke in 2012, Dolly became a resident of Heartland of Perrysburg Nursing Home. Her new home was filled with the kindest, most caring nurses, aides, support staff and fellow residents, who quickly became her friends. Her days were spent in loving care and abundant laughter. No one left her room without at least one Dum-Dum Sucker as a token of thanks. When it was decided that Dolly would not be able to return home she was given the choice of three rooms. Her guardian angel guided her that day as she chose the room and so the roommate who would become her most loving friend and true guardian angel, Mary Purdy. Dolly was a member of the Heartland beading group, participated in the many activities and field trips that were offered and thrived in her new home thanks to Mary's constant encouragement. Due to the stroke Dolly had difficulty communicating but she was still mentally sharp, often reminding her son of upcoming birthdays so a card could be sent. Dolly's lifelong love of animals was evident every time a therapy dog, rabbit, pony or even a staff member's goat or pet snake entered her room; her face just lit up. Thankfully, Mary captured all of these encounters and so many more on film. Dolly was preceded in death by her son, Richard A. "Rick" Sinkovic and her parents. She is survived by her sons, John (Janet) Sinkovic, Dale (Michael) Sinkovic; grandchildren Robert, Melissa (partner Tom), and Jennifer (fiancé Casey) and great-grandchildren Colton, Oakley, Reid and Myra. Dolly had a kind, caring and generous soul and it was repaid ten fold. She was especially grateful for her nieces Becki Capone, Kristi Rutledge and Lori Stammer. Cousins, Nancy and Stan Turski, Norm and Dorothy Kudlinski, Teri and Jim Lusiak, Donna and Tom Lee, and Sandra Cvetinovic. Her second family, Cathy, Lexie, Nick, Diane, Jeramy, and Jerod, by way of her roommate Mary and her next door neighbor Geraldine who visited every morning. They all brightened her days with hugs and laughter, cards, gifts, flowers, meals and special treats, photos, phone calls and visits. Their simple kindness showed her that she was loved and cherished. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Tuesday, December 6th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the mortuary on Wednesday, December 7th at 10:00 a.m. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
