Valentin "Tino" Mendoza

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Valentin "Tino" Mendoza. He was born on Valentine's Day February 14th, 1940, to parents Herculano M. and Josefa (Reyes) Mendoza in Malakoff, Texas. Like his namesake St. Valentine, Tino possessed a heart larger than life guided by love! He was a man of integrity, humility, kindness, and strength! He taught by example that true greatness is measured not by wealth or status, but by the lives touched through acts of love, sacrifice, and generosity. Tino was a devoted husband to his wife of 35 years, Blanca R. (Flores) Mendoza, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories until her passing in 2004. Tino is survived by his three children Sonia Jennings, Christina and Anthony Mendoza; siblings Antonia "Toni" Ballez, Greg (Laurie) Mendoza, Andrea (John) Loch, and Maria (Robert) Villagomez. Tino is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan S. Helfrich, Wesley A., Reina A., Gabe V. Rison, Jessica M., Anthony (AJ), Madison N., Parker V., Milena M., Stella G. Mendoza; great- grandchildren Akera J. Stigler, Octavia L. Rison, Isabella T. Holly, Azumi Rison, Lorenzo A. Rison, Michael L. and Mya L. Mendoza along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Blanca, brothers Martin Mendoza Jr. and Herculano Mendoza, sister Herminia Campbell, and grandson Lorenzo A. Rison Tino proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. His service reflected the values he carried throughout his life: honor, commitment, and humility. Tino worked at the Toledo Jeep plant as an electrician for 40+ years before retiring in 2005. Tino was also a life long member and supporter of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Though modest in stature, Tino was a man of unwavering dedication to his family, always putting the needs of his loved ones before his own. As a provider, protector, and source of wisdom, he worked tirelessly to ensure his family was cared for and supported. The love he gave so freely will continue to be felt for generations to come. Known for his generosity and kind spirit, Tino was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer advice, or share what he had with others. Friends and family alike could count on him, knowing he would be there whenever needed. When Tino wasn't spending time with family, Tino enjoyed some of life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed boxing, softball, and was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns and Guardians, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. In his free time, you could often find him around a pool table, enjoying a friendly game, sharing laughs, and making memories with friends and family. Above all else, Tino treasured the time spent with those he loved especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Tino's legacy is one of selflessness, hard work, loyalty, generosity, and unconditional love. While his family mourns his loss, they take comfort in knowing that his example, values, and cherished memories will remain forever in their hearts. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Tino will be greeted at the gates of heaven by his parents Herculano M. and Josefa (Reyes) Mendoza and siblings Martin Jr, Herculano and Herminia M. (Mendoza) Campbell along with many other family and friends that preceded him in death. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Wednesday, August 5 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. A Rosary service will begin at 6:00. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church on Thursday, August 6 at 11:00 a.m. with an hour of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park with military honors.
