Robert L. Roberts

Bob Roberts died on Valentine’s Day unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his favorite recliner with his devoted Bichon, Snowy. He was born in Genoa, Ohio on December 13, 1947 to Robert F. and Freda Roberts. He graduated from Genoa High School in 1965 and went on to receive his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Education from the University of Toledo. Bob had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He was an amateur astronomer. He enjoyed playing golf most of his life with his buddies, Tony Rodriguez, Don Colyer and Bruce Denman among many others. He was an avid reader of science fiction novels. He loved walleye fishing in the Maumee River each spring. Bob also kept beautiful tropical fish in a large aquarium in his home. He taught history at the junior high and high school levels at various schools in the Toledo Public School System, but he held a special place in his heart for the faculty and social studies students at Old West End. Jr. High. His wife, Judy, had taught with him for over 25 years and became his life partner when they were married in June of 1998. After retirement left him wanting more social interaction, he enjoyed working as a salesman for Gutter Helmet. His rather gruff exterior hid a jovial and generous nature. He loved having fun. He wanted to share his love of the outdoor beauty and historical settings, so he took his children, Brian and Rachel, on camping trips all over The West. He also loved spoiling his grandchildren with the latest in video gaming equipment and games. He was a long time Toledo hockey fan from the old days to the Walleye. His wife converted him into a Mud Hens baseball fan. He traded years of season tickets for a comfortable seat watching sports on BCSN TV. He was preceded in death by his parents Freda and Robert Roberts and his brother Ronald Roberts. He is survived by his loving wife Judy, son Brian (Robbie) Roberts, daughter Rachel (Jeff Peterson) Karavas, step sons Mark (Tracey) Morgan, Roderick (Katie) Morgan, Jason (Ginger) Morgan, and Eric (Terri) Morgan. Grandchildren Cameron and Camille Karavas, Charlie and Brian Peterson, Matthew, Jaime, Collin, Grace, Simon, Aaron, Paul, Claire, Lacey, Kiley, Brandon and Bethany Morgan. One great-grandson Camdyn Cash Oldenberg. Also surviving is his former wife, Jean Roberts. We want to thank Dr. Thomas McAlear for providing wonderful care for the best “lean and mean” years of his life. Kudos also to Dr. Timothy Fisher (dentist) and Dr. Steven Clark (ophthalmologist) for making it possible for him to eat and see over the past years. Friends may call Friday from 2-8 p.m. at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. in Toledo and on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. There will be a memorial celebration beginning at 11 am. Tributes can be made to the Salvation Army, The Cherry Street Mission or a charity of your choice.
