Powers James Edward Jr. James Edward Powers, Jr. (Jim), 58, of Toledo passed away on Friday, November 19 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Jim was born in Niles, Ohio on September 23, 1952 to Marguerite Mary (Dunn) Powers and James Edward Powers, Sr. He attended St. Stephen’s Catholic School. The family moved to Wilmington, Delaware in 1966, where Jim graduated from Mount Pleasant Senior High School in 1970. Afterward, he attended The University of Delaware and Youngstown State University. In 1977, Jim partnered with his father to create an electroplating company, P & J Industries, in Toledo, Ohio, of which Jim was president. The pair started “the shop” on a shoestring, never dreaming it would one day expand to three states with three separate locations in Toledo. Through the years, Jim won the loyalty of his employees and the respect of his peers, holding the office of President of the American Electroplaters Society, Toledo Branch. On November 17, 1983, Jim married Wendy Jane Jacobs of Hatboro, Pennsylvania. They recently marked their 27th anniversary. Jim discovered his most important role in life when he became a father to daughters Jaclynn Eileen and Danielle Marguerite. The girls have many fond memories of their father’s doting ways, including him hiding one surprise gift for each in the branches of the Christmas tree every year. Jim prized family above all else, and treasured holidays and family get-togethers, as well as trips to the Poconos to visit his in-laws, and yearly vacations in Venice, Florida with his sister and her family. Jim was an avid music fan, and a particular devotee of Bruce Springsteen. He was a loved husband, adored father, treasured son, idolized brother, beloved uncle, and favored cousin and nephew. Jim will be remembered and loved by his family: wife Wendy, daughters Jaclynn and Danielle, parents Marguerite and James Sr., sisters Patricia (Frank) Slanina, Susan (DJ) Kerscher, Caroline (Dennis) Powers-Miller, Constance (Doug) Schnitkey, mother and father-in-law Nancy and Buzz Jacobs, brothers-in-law Rob (Angie) Jacobs, Rick Jacobs, and Tom (Michelle) Jacobs. He will be greatly missed by his 14 nieces and nephews, his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his devoted P&J employees. Jim was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mildred and James Dunn, and his paternal grandparents Caroline and Arthur Powers. Visitors will be received at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo on Monday, November 22, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the mortuary on Tuesday November 23 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at St. Joan of Arc Church 5856 Heatherdowns Blvd. at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. “But love is a power greater than death, just like the songs and stories told And when she built you, brother, she broke the mold” Bruce Springsteen
