Eileen Christoffers

Eileen Marie Christoffers (55) of Onsted, Michigan was tragically taken from us on the morning of January 29, 2024 after she said goodbye to her husband and began her routine drive into work. She never arrived, and our lives will never be the same. Eileen was born in Lancaster, Ohio on August 29, 1968, to Raymond G. "Jerry" and Kathleen (Coleman) Colopy. She married the love of her life, Jeff Christoffers, on June 2, 1992, and as she has left this world before him, his heart is broken. She and Jeff had two wonderful boys, Scott and Matt. And while she found such joy in watching them begin their own journeys in love and marriage, "her real pursuit" was to be a grandmother. She claimed that her 30 years of teaching was simply to bolster her resume' so the boys would let her babysit once she retired. Sadly, she had yet to reach that chapter in her life. As her loved ones, it's our job now. She left behind her husband Jeff, her children Scott (Kaylynn) Christoffers, and Matt Christoffers (Taylor), her mother, Kathleen (Coleman) Colopy; and her siblings, Maureen Secrist (Mark), Katie Naveau (Mike), Steve Colopy (Tara) and Elizabeth (Brian) Moore and so many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret-Mary "Meg" Seipel, her father, Jerry Colopy and grandparents, Clarence and Bernardine Colopy and Clarence and Margaret Coleman. Eileen started her adult life by graduating from Ohio University in 1991 with her degree in Early Childhood Education, eventually earning Master's and Specialist degrees in the field. For over 30 years Eileen served others, touching the lives of countless Sylvania and Rossford children and their families, not to mention the lives of her loving coworkers. She LIVED for her students and her patience and warmth made her a beloved teacher and member of the educational community. Every student who walked into her classroom benefitted from the solid footing that she provided as they moved forward on their educational journey. Former students and their parents called her a kind soul and the good that she instilled in those students will be one legacy of her life's work. Complicated enough is the world of education. Once home, Eileen reduced happiness to the most rudimentary of simplicities: Mud Pie Mojo at ColdStone; Tuesday date night filled with mall food and a movie; Lee Child and Nicholas Sparks novels; Wheel of Fortune; a dock, a lake and some Moscata; a pontoon and a sunset; and of course, daydreaming about the grandchildren she will now never bounce on her lap. So many of us can learn so much from her approach to just about everything. Eileen was our Switzerland…Love doesn't take sides, and while it is often hard to be kind in this world without offending someone, she did it. She had no agenda and held no grudges. It is a special person who is able to keep such a positive outlook in a world that can seem unkind, but she did. She was like the sun shining on a late spring day. She had a warmth that brought a smile to your face and made you feel relaxed and content to just be in her presence. Her beautiful soul brought a brightness to the world that will be missed by all who knew and loved her. There will be a Visitation on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 11-5pm at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd, Toledo Ohio with a brief prayer service at 1 pm.
