Alice H. LaFleche

Alice Proulx LaFleche May 8, 1930 - May 17, 2017 Alice LaFleche was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts on May 8, 1930, to Ovila and Valida Proulx. She was well educated by the Sisters of Notre Dame in both French and English. She loved language and wrote poems, songs and letters that have been treasured throughout the years. Alice was best known for her loving and caring manner and generous spirit. One way she expressed her love was through her marvelous cooking. If you visited her home, you were hugged and welcomed as a member of the family and fed. Her favorite role in life was as a loving wife of 65 years to her adoring husband, Robert. On April 15th, 2017, these two lovebirds, still holding hands, celebrated the 70th anniversary of their first meeting. Her proudest achievement was raising her three devoted children, Linda Marie Domini (Bob), David Robert LaFleche (Jacqueline), and Lisa Ann Schuster (Gary). Alice doted on her children and sacrificed willingly to support their hopes and dreams. Her unconditional love lives on through them and grandchildren, Matthew Drake, Heather Schuster, Michael Schuster, Lindsey LaFleche, and Daniel LaFleche and bonus grandkids Aaron (Rachel) Domini and their children Maggie and Judah, Nicole (Victor) Philippi and their children Nadia and Lyzie. Two staples of the LaFleche home were music, which Alice loved, and laughter, in which the whole family shared… to the point of happy tears. Alice found the humor in everything, and was the first to laugh at herself. Bob and Alice enjoyed travelling, whether it was a cruise, their Hawaiian island vacation or trips to Mexico and California. The children remember well their yearly road trips home to Massachusetts. Alice was very involved in her church, St. Patrick of Heatherdowns. For nearly 25 years she was the “PIC” Person in Charge, leading the nursing home visitation ministry. She and a cadre of other volunteers spread the love of Christ to those who were no longer able to attend church. She established the “Sweet Tooth Booth” at the Annual Parish Festival and assisted with the White Elephant Sale for several years. She and Bob served as Chairpersons of the Senior Social Club for 3 years, where they fostered great friendships. Rare was the time when Alice couldn’t be found in her kitchen cooking to provide food for various Parish events or families in need. Over the years, Alice enjoyed the outlet of several part-time jobs, especially her work at Coach House Gifts in the old Southwyck Mall. Her warm and accepting personality – Alice never met a stranger – and her commitment to doing things right served her well in her jobs and in her life. Loved by all who were lucky enough to know her, Alice will be deeply and forever missed by family and friends. Heaven is a better place for having received the soul of this lovely and loving woman. Alice was the 4th of six children, preceded in death by siblings, Tom, Doris, Rose, George, and Georgette. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Friday, May 19 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be on Saturday, May 20, 12:00 p.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, with an hour of visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
