Thomas Kranz

Thomas J. Kranz Sr., 90, of Sylvania, Ohio, died peacefully on Monday March 14th, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on April 4th, 1925 to Ben and Marguerite (O’Brien) Kranz. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1942, then joined the U.S. Marine Corp. While serving in the South Pacific in WWII, he was awarded the Bronze star for valor in the face of the enemy during the battle of Sugarloaf Hill on the island of Okinawa. Immediately following the war he married Mary E. King, and together they raised eight children. He joined Equitable of Iowa Insurance Co. where he became a perrenial leader in the Toledo Agency. He was a Hall of Honor recipient in 1983, a national award only given out once in a lifetime for outstanding service to both his business and personal clients, a major achievement in the insurance industry. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Betty J. Kranz, children: Thomas J. Jr.,Cathy (Rich) Fulton-Dzienny, Bonnie (Takashi) Yamano, Carol (Jim) Potter, Tim (Linda), Betsy (Jesse) Villarreal, Terry (Anne), Cindy Kranz; two step-children, Mindy Nottage and Russ Wumer; 22 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and four step-great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Agnes Hollister and many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Marguerite Kranz, his youngest son, Ted; sister, Mary Alice Hickey and brother, Bernie Kranz. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Thursday, March 17th from 2-8 p.m. where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday March 18th beginning at 9:15 a.m., in the mortuary, followed by a Funeral Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
