Stephen B. Rodriguez

Stephen B. Rodriguez died unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm on Friday, January 2, 2015. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by the peaceful love of his family. He was 81 years old. Steve was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 26, 1933 to Juan Mendoza and Ursula (Lupercio) Rodriguez. He attended Libbey High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1955. In the Navy, Steve had many adventures and enjoyed telling of them. In 1987, after 32 years, he retired from the Dura Corporation as a timekeeper. He was strong in his Catholic faith and enjoyed being a nursing home Eucharistic minister. As a natural athlete, he was an avid golfer, tennis player and coach. And he was always willing to share valuable tips on how to improve your game. Steve lived his life by the traditional standards of hard work, respect and responsibility. He had a noble moral compass and always tried to do the right thing. Above all, Steve valued family love and togetherness. He instilled all these ideals in his children and so his legacy lives on. Steve was loved and will be missed deeply by many people. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: MaryRose Rodriguez-Noble and Michael Noble, Marcia and Brian Weisenburger, Laura Rodriguez and Robert Andrzejak, Karen Rodriguez Kruzel, Jacquelyn and Timothy Hack, and Gloria and John Westerman. Among those close to him are his longtime companion, Joan Ray, Jana and Andrew Smyth, Jim and Julie Ray, John and Robin Ray, and Donna Rodriguez. He is also survived by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and by his brothers, George (Pat) and Godfrey (Judy). He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Alfred (Margie), Susie (Carmen) Cervantes, Joe (Millie), Mary (Robert) Urbina, Jane (Alfred) Segura, Jesse, and Vickey (John) Minton; and his son-in-law, Joseph Kruzel. What a joyful reunion there will be in heaven with his son, Michael! Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Tuesday, January 6th from 2-8 p.m. where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 7th beginning at 9:15 a.m., in the mortuary, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Church at 10 a.m. Interment Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Charles Borromeo Church or to the Cherry Street Mission Ministries.
