Phyllis Loeffler Fadell Lacure Phyllis Lacure, wife, mother, sister, Mimi and nurse, passed away peacefully October 17, 2012 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Phyllis was born November 10, 1924 in Jackson, MI to Earl and Bernadine Loeffler, the second of 5 children and raised in Monroe, MI. After graduating from St. Mary’s Academy, she enrolled in St. Vincent School of Nursing, where she earned her RN certification in the Cadet Program , an accelerated program to ready her for duty in WW II. She married Albert Fadell, a Toledo police officer in November 1945 and was widowed with three children in November 1948. She married James Lacure, an employee at The Blade for over 20 years, in December 1949 and was widowed again in February 1987. Her love of ball room dancing introduced her to her fiancé Tom Ross several years later. Phyllis took on many roles during the course of her life. She practiced her nursing at St. Vincent Medical Center for many years and was a pioneer in utilization review as the coordinator at Sheridan Community Hospital, Sheridan, MI. This put her dealing with physicians, hospital administrators and insurance companies, always with her patients’ best interests at heart. Phyllis was an active volunteer in numerous activities, many of them with her parishes (Rosary Cathedral and St. Patrick of Heatherdowns as well as those in Sheridan and Hillsdale MI); Christian Family Movement, CFM, in its earliest years; Eucharistic minister; helping hands funeral lunches and pre-Cana program to name a few. She assisted as a Girl Scout leader, blood bank volunteer and served as an election poll volunteer. Her greatest role though was mother to her 13 children. She could often be found sitting on the floor playing games, working puzzles or reading with them as those unimportant dust bunnies were left in the corners. She continued this love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis lived life with grace and beauty and will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. She is survived by her children, Karen Jo Welter, Judith (Ron) Crocker, Phyllis Ann (John) Tharp, Leslie (Tom) Beidleman, William (Pam) Lacure, Josette (Tim) McCarthy, Michele (Jim)Cassabon, James, “Chip” (Susan) Lacure, Jr., Paul (Shelley) Lacure, Gerard Lacure, Larry (Mary Ann) Lacure, and Alicia (fiancée’ Matt Kohlhofer) Lacure, 40 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. Siblings Jeanne Byron, Bernadine Eckles and Dr. Richard Loeffler, (Frances). In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son John Albert Fadell and brother Rev. Earl Loeffler. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Friday, October 19 from 2-8, with a scripture service at 7 p.m. The funeral will begin on Saturday, October 20, with an hour of visitation from 10-11 a.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, followed by mass. Burial at Calvary cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests tributes in Phyllis’ name to Rosary Cathedral Parish or the charity of the donor’s choice.
