Jacquelyn Thieding Ayers

Jacquelyn Thieding Ayers, 68, of Bowling Green, OH died peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on March 1, 2012 after living a rich, vibrant life filled with friends, family and dedicated to her profession. She was born to the late John (Jack) Thieding and Catherine Thieding on August, 18, 1943 in Mansfield, OH. Jackie graduated from Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing in 1964 and received a B.A. from the University of Toledo in 1974. She was married to Frank Ayers from 1964 ?" 1984 and had two daughters, Lisa and Sarah. She received her M.S.N in 1979 from Wayne State University. Jackie enjoyed a rewarding career, which began in direct care nursing at Toledo Mental Health Center and Toledo Hospital. She then worked for the Medical College of Ohio as an assistant/adjunct professor and then transitioned into managed care nursing. She returned to the Medical College as a nursing instructor to finish her professional career. During her career Jackie was instrumental in starting the first critical care unit at Toledo Hospital as well as ushering in managed health care as the Director of Parkside Health Management Corporation and the President of Integrated Psych Care. Jackie had many accomplishments in her career but would like to be remembered as someone who always held the highest regard for nurses and a person who constantly challenged current practices in order to better the health care field and the career of nursing. Besides her commitment to nursing she was very proud of her service to the community including her time as a board member and President for Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Board member for Zepf Center, Docent for the Toledo Museum of Art, Red Cross Disaster Team volunteer, Jamie Farr LPGA volunteer and an avid member of New Hope Christian Church to name a few. Jackie had a passion for many things in life ?" especially for her daughters and their families: Lisa (Chris) Comes ?" beloved grandchildren: Carolyn Comes, Alexandra Comes, John Ross Comes and Emma Comes and Sarah Ayers (Chuck Skinner) ?" beloved grandchild: Jack Ayers Skinner. Jackie's grandchildren will always cherish the memories of their “Wacky Jackie”. She was also passionate about and committed to her special partner Paul Haas, his two daughters (Karen Haas Misseldine and Christine Haas and their families). Jackie always called Paul “the love of her life.” They have enjoyed the last few years immensely. Jackie and Paul were inseparable and spent time traveling, golfing, being with friends and family and truly - “living life to it's fullest.” Jackie often mentioned that her only regret in passing was not having more time with Paul. Jackie is also survived by her 7 siblings and numerous nieces and nephews: Donna (Ora) Brinegar, Sandy Mills, Casey (Skip) Burns, Carla (Larry) Stamper, Cherie (Paul) Fitzpatrick, Cindy( Alan) Zatik and Brent Lewis. She was preceded in death by brothers in law ?" Roy Potts and Tom Mills, sister-in-law Cheryl Lewis and stepfather Cleve Lewis. In lieu of flowers, Jackie has requested, that donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Toledo Museum of Art Docent Program. Per Jackie's wishes - a “Celebration of Life” event will be held on March 17, 2012 at the Toledo Museum of Art Glass Pavilion from 3-6pm where there will be a brief formal remembrance at 3:30 pm. Paul, Lisa, Sarah and their families look forward to seeing friends and family of Jackie's to celebrate the amazing life that Jackie led and the inspiration that she gave to all of us.
