Edmund D. Soule

Edmund Soule age 87 passed away Saturday February 20, 2010 in St. Luke's Hospital with family by his side. Born on January 30, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio to Ira and Hilda Soule, he was the owner of Soule Floor Covering. During World War II he was the Ball Turret Gunner on the Stanley Reed Crew, one of the original 398th Bomber Squadron crews who flew the northern route to England in April 1944. Ed was extremely proud of his service to his country and although he didn't talk about it until later in life, he came to love sharing those memories with his family. But his greatest pride was his growing family. Ed married Bernice Burns on June 9, 1945 at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio. She survives along with their children Bruce (Gerry), Marty (Mark) Bassett, Diane (Mike) Wells, Laura (Joe) Fulop, Mary Ann (Mark) Weiler and Linda (Mike) Ryan; grandchildren Brian (Christine) Soule, Michelle (Bob) Haney, Julie (Frank) Lawton, Kevin (Angela), Keith (Rosa) and Ken (Shay) Bassett, Valerie and Matthew Wells, Jason (Katie), Adam (Jenni) and Anna Fulop, Leigh Anne (Steve) Apke, Bradley and Melissa Weiler, Evan and Sean Ryan; 16 great-grandchildren and brother, Elmer Soule. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Irma Swantner and brother Harold Soule. He was a Charter member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Jude Council, achieving 4th degree and a member of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns. Ed's hobbies included golf and fishing, whitewater rafting and playing cards. He traveled abroad and across much of North America. His favorite trips were to Alaska to visit his brothers. Lately he found great joy in visits from his widespread family, watching deer in his yard and exchanging daily e-mail messages with family and friends. Ed leaves behind a legacy of love and a set of personal values that will continue to be reflected in his family for generations to come. Ed was a role model husband, dad and grandpa and was admired by all for his gentle soul and kind-hearted nature. Family and friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Wednesday, February 24th from 2-8 p.m. where a prayer service will be recited at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus service will follow at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2010 beginning at 9:30 a.m., in the mortuary, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church at 10 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association.
