Carol Ann Zavac

Zavac Carol Ann Fosty Carol Zavac, age 80 of south Toledo, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 9, 2011, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Christmas Eve, December 24, 1930 to Fred A. and Regina C. O’Brien Fosty. Carol was the third of three daughters. She attended St. Teresa’s grade school and graduated from Notre Dame Academy with the class of 1948. She earned Bachelors degrees in Liberal Arts and Education from Bowling Green State University in 1952 and performed graduate work at the University of Toledo. She married Lou Zavac in 1953 and they spent 57 plus years together. Carol taught at Trilby School before she was married and in Cleveland Public Schools before starting her family. When her children were all in school she went back to teach World History and Latin at St. Ursula Academy for twenty-nine years. While teaching Latin she took many groups of her Latin students to Italy and Greece during summer vacations. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling to Israel, The Greek Islands, Egypt, Istanbul, Hungary, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, New Zealand and Australia. Carol loved reading, movies, theater, the symphony and jazz. Her love of teaching continued through retirement as a homework helper for the Toledo Public Library and as a tutor for high school students. She is survived by her husband, Lou and was the very proud mother of seven children; Jeff (Nancy) Zavac, Gina (Ray) Okoroski, Becky (Fred) Braker, David (Joanne) Zavac, Joseph (Amy) Zavac, Michael (Judy) Zavac and Matt Zavac. The grandchildren are Elizabeth and Danny Okoroski, Catherine Braker, Kayla and Madeleine Zavac, David, Christopher and Andrew Zavac and Brittany Zavac. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S Reynolds Rd., on Friday March 11, 2011 from 2-8 p.m. where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the mortuary on Saturday March 12th at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may take the form of a contribution to Cherry Street Mission, Notre Dame Academy, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School Scholarship Fund, or the Toledo Jazz Society.
