Mary Louise Rowland Mary Louise Rowland was peacefully called home by her “Friend Upstairs” on March 7, 2017. She was born in Duluth, Minnesota on July 18, 1923 to Martin and Angela Forrestal. At the age of 5, her family moved to Chicago where she attended school and graduated from nursing school in 1944. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Naval Hospital in San Diego where she was assigned to care for the wounded Marine Captain, J. Edward Rowland. Within a year, they were married and eventually raised a family of five children. They made homes in Cambridge, MA, Toledo, OH, and Birmingham, Michigan before retiring to Sun Center, Florida where they spent 17 wonderful years. They enjoyed golfing together and were very active at Prince of Peace Catholic Church and the community. Mary Lou participated in many craft clubs and especially loved to needlepoint heirloom Christmas stockings for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also volunteered at the S.C.C. Neighborhood EMS, the Wimama School District, and distributed communion at local nursing homes. She is preceded in death by Ed, her husband of 58 years, her parents, 3 siblings, and son-in-law John Croci. She will rest next to her husband at Bushnell National Military Cemetery in Florida. Mary Lou is survived by her five children, Susan, Joe (Shelly), Gerald, Anne (Jim), Jane (Ron), 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. There will be a family Memorial Mass in Lansing, Michigan on June 3, 2017. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Compassus, 801S.
