June 12, 1934 - December 28, 2020
Martha "Jean" Nelson was born on June 12th 1934, to the union of John and Mary (Chambers) Bryce in Toledo, Ohio. Jean as she was known, was raised by her Great Aunt Stella and Uncle Frank Lowery on the west side of Toledo, along with her Aunt Kathleen. Although not raised together, she was very close to her three siblings Tom, Sally and Jerry. While attending Notre Dame Academy, Jean met Jack Herman Nelson through mutual friends and after her graduation Jean married the love of her life on July 3, 1952 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Jean was a devoted wife and they moved frequently in support of Jack's military career. Along the way they had four children, John, Nancy, Greg and Pam. Eventually Jean and Jack settled in Springfield, Virginia where she would remain for the next forty years. A wonderful mother, she always supported her kids' activities whether it was for scouting events, making halloween costumes, being an elementary school room mother or attending high school sporting events. Jean loved to cook and family was very important to her. Holidays were always special as she would host big family gatherings at her house, which was especially fun as her kids married and had children of their own. Jean also enjoyed the annual Nelson family vacation in Toledo, Ohio; spending time visiting her Aunt Kathleen and Uncle Mike, the Spratt and Bryce families, as well as all the other wonderful relatives in Toledo. Martha "Jean" Nelson departed this life on December 28th, 2020.
