Joseph Dalton LaJeunesse, age 92, of Toledo and Englewood FL., passed away August 10, 2018 in his home with loved ones to bid him farewell as he entered Chapter 3. He was born to Eleanor Dalton and Dolphis LaJeunesse September 24, 1925. Joe was the oldest of 7, and was preceded in death by siblings Eleanor, Janet, Judy and Tim. He is survived by siblings Tom (Debbie), Perrysburg, OH, and Ellen (Jerry) King (Amelia Island, FL.). He was big-hearted and enormously kind, with a strong sense of fairness, and unending patience in all things. As evidence, he taught each of his children to drive a motor vehicle, with only an occasional mishap. Joe was the “Rock” of the family. He was a long time member of the fraternal order of Eagles, St. Raphael’s Church in Englewood, FL., and Historic St. Patrick’s in Toledo. Following graduation from Central Catholic H.S., Joe was drafted and joined the U.S. Navy. He trained for and served as an aircraft machinist from 1943 to 1946. As the war wound down, he was stationed in the Marshall Islands/Phillipines, and served as personal aide to three-star Admiral Herell as his shuttle boat Captain/Driver. On his return to the states he embarked on a 45 year career as a tool & die maker for Gerity-Schultz Die Casting, GM, and Modern Tool, until his retirement in 1991. During retirement, he and Doris enjoyed traveling around the country and the world, especially to their winter home on the water in Shady Haven, Englewood, Florida. Included in these travels they enjoyed visiting family and attending ceremonies, events, and sports of all kinds across the miles. In 1943, in Chapter 1 of his life, Joe married Juanita Hall (deceased), and is survived by daughters Carol (Alan) Dills, Perrysburg, OH, Janet (Tim, deceased) Holt, Denton, TX. Jennifer Jacoby, Arlington, MA, and son, William (Lori) LaJeunesse, Malibu, CA. In this Chapter 1 of life, he is survived by grandchildren Matthew (Sue) Dills, Andy (Jen) Dills, Cassie (Jay) LaCourse, Darcy Henry, Amanda (Andy) Shelton, Peter (Jen) Jacoby, Will (Jen) Jacoby, Annie (Cody) Rigg, Corbin LaJeunesse, and 10 great-grandchildren. In 1981, Joe married Doris Kistler, and in this, Chapter 2 of his life, he is survived by loving spouse, Doris. He was welcomed into her family which included Tom (Laura Landes) Kistler (deceased), Monmouth, OR, Susan Kistler, Burbank, CA, Karen (Bob) Dunlap, Toledo, Michael Kistler, Mulberry, FL., Linda James, Lakeland, FL. The grandchildren in this chapter include Ben Kistler, Phil (Candace) Kistler, Stefanie (Nick) Benner, Bobby (Kate) Dunlap, Hannah Kistler, Nicole James, and 4 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at The Historic Church of St. Patrick, 130 Avondale Ave., Toledo, OH 43604, at 10:00 a.m. where the family will begin receiving guests at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
