Sanford Taylor, Jr.

Sanford “Sam” Taylor, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 25, 1934 in Toledo to Sanford, Sr. and Alta Grace (Winder) Caputo. Sam graduated from Scott High School, where, in 2015, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his contributions to the Toledo community. Sam graduated from the University of Toledo with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1958. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Naval Reserves from 1952-1960. Sam worked for the Medical College of Ohio (UTMUO) from 1971-1995. He was the Associate Vice President of engineering and construction, overseeing the planning and development of the campus. He was an active member of the Toledo Planning Commission, the Masons, the Zenobia Arab Patrol Shriners, the Royal Order of Jesters, and OLPH Catholic Church. In his retirement, he discovered his gift and talent of wood carving, creating many beautiful pieces. Sam kept a lifelong friendship with his fraternity brothers from UT, gathering together each month. Sam often said that he is the person he was, because of his childhood experiences at Camp Storer. Sam will be remembered by his warm smile, quick wit, and his PMA (Positive Mental Attitude). Surviving are his loving wife, Cathy, daughters, Kathy Crahan, Connie and Sue Taylor, grandchildren, Ryan and Alex (Alexa) Crahan, Chelsea, Delaney and Cheyenne Banas and great grandchildren Hailey, Savannah, Logan and Liam. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Elinor. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Monday, June 5, from 2-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service and a Sharing of Memories at 7. The funeral will begin at Coyle on Tuesday, June 6 at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 10. Interment will be at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of NW Ohio, OLPH Church or the YMCA Camp Storer fund. The family would like to thank Dr. Skeel and the staff at UTMUO for their compassionate care of Sam over the years of his illness.
