Patricia "Patt" Marie Metzger

Patricia Marie Metzger, age 82, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016, with her loving family by her side at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 19, 1934 to Herbert and Catherine Fandrey. Patt was a 1952 graduate of Central Catholic High School. She married the love of her life, Norbert Metzger on June 20, 1953 and he preceded her in death March 14, 2012. Patt just loved life, and always had a kind word and freshly baked cookies. She was so proud of the wonderful family she was such an inspiration to. She enjoyed swimming laps almost daily and taught many others to swim over the years at the South Toledo YMCA. Patt was an active member of St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns and volunteered with many TEC retreats and led the RCIA program in the past. She was instrumental working with her husband and sons in the start-up years of the family business she was so proud of, Metzgers Printing. Patt also loved to dance, especially square-dance, with Norb. During retirement years in Florida, they danced and also taught many of their friends to dance. Patt met Norb dancing – roller-dancing on the roller skate rink and they won many dance and roller skating awards. After the years of being a loving caring Mom to five children, Patt and Norb enjoyed traveling and a nice active retirement in Florida. Patt enjoyed her last few years living at the Genesis Village and valued the the friendships that she made there. Most of all, Patt enjoyed being a Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. She made each and every one of her kids and grandkids feel like ‘the favorite’! All of her family looked forward to family gatherings so they could spend time with her. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her sisters, Kay Walsh and Jeanette Schoettle, her husband of 59 years Norb, her sons, Dick and Joe. Patt is survived by son, Tom (Anita); daughters, Cathy (Ken) Plante, Connie (Jim) Flahie, two daughters-in-law Marilyn and Dana, and grandchildren Adam, Tony, John, Mark, Kevin, Kelly Metzger, Chris (Steph) Plante, Sean (Natalie) Flahie, Kerry (Dan) Stoots, Ryan Flahie; great-grandchildren Reid and Ella Stoots. Family and friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Thursday, October 6, 2016, from 2-8 p.m where a Scripture Service will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7th beginning at 9:30 a.m., in the mortuary, followed by a Funeral Mass and celebration of Patt’s life at St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, Ohio at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made: Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo.
