McKenzie Noel Northup

McKenzie Noel Northup, 17, of Maumee, Ohio went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family on September 6, 2018 at University of Michigan Hospital. She was born on November 16, 2000. McKenzie was a student of Springfield High School at the time of her passing. She loved writing stories and poems, taking care of animals and kids, 4-wheeling and adventure, cooking, swimming, theater, movies, reading, and playing cards. Her favorite places were Disney World, The Toledo Museum of Art and the ocean. She had a passion for art and shared her love of all things art with everyone, everywhere she went, and had aspirations of becoming an art teacher. McKenzie made friends easily and leaves behind close friends John Peace III, Emma Sellers, Audrey Beatrice and Hassan Williams. She bravely fought her battle with Cystic Fibrosis. We are thankful for the doctors and nurses, and especially Kate Swann, for taking such great care of her when she had long stays at Toledo Children’s Hospital. We are also grateful for the staff at the Cystic Fibrosis clinic, for being her care team, through everything. In addition, we thank UTMC, Survival Flight, and University of Michigan Hospital for their care before her passing and Springfield Fire and Rescue. We have felt so much love and support from neighbors, friends, and strangers during this difficult time. McKenzie joined the Northup family on September 12, 2007 after several years in foster care. She proudly told people that she was chosen and that her other family is her foster Mom, Tonya Halford, and brother Toben. McKenzie was very close with her Northup brothers Ryan and Robbie who are left to cherish her memory. She also leaves behind her parents, Joy and Alex Northup, her grandparents Amy and John Cameron, Charles Northup, and Thelma Fuller. Also left to cherish her memory are many aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation for McKenzie will be at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, Ohio on Wednesday September, 12 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Heritage Church of God, 2520 Strayer Rd., Maumee with internment following at Toledo Memorial Park. A life celebration will follow at Heritage Church of God. Those who wish to make a memorial donation are asked to consider The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation MI/NW Ohio Chapter.
