Maureen A. Hoover

Maureen Ann (Mackley) Hoover, 71, died Monday, August 4, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born on October 5, 1942. She resided in the Old West End and South Toledo throughout her life. She will be reunited with her husband of 39 years, Richard (Dick) Hoover Sr. They were married at Rosary Cathedral in August 1962. She spent many years caring for Dick due to his diabetic complications. Maureen graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1960. She then attended the St. Vincent School of Nursing, where she became a LPN. After, she spent 19 years as a NICU Nurse at The Toledo Hospital. Additionally, Maureen spent much of her life at home taking care of over 100 foster children. Maureen was one of a kind and embodied a passion for goodwill, selflessness, and charity for her community, friends, and strangers. When not at work, she was constantly involved with the many activities and hobbies of her six children. Her kids often recount the occasions that Maureen was a positive influence on the lives of others. No matter the challenges she faced, she was persistent and dauntless in all endeavors. She was an avid crafter, collector, and traveler. Her favorite craft activities included t-shirt designs, card making, and scrapbooking. Her most memorable trips include Las Vegas, Ireland, Alaska, and the Bahamas. Maureen will be greatly missed and is survived by her daughters, Mary Beth (Dave) Neely, Kris (John) Sams, Kate Hoover and Karen (Jason) Gunn; sons, Rich Jr. (Kim) and Matt (Kim); grandchildren, Miranda and Taylor Hoover, David, Nicole and Courtney Neely, John, Stephanie, Lukas and Tyler Sams, Cassie and Callie Hoover, and Jason and Derek Gunn; sister Lynn Mackley and brothers John (Ann) Mackley and Jim (Janice) Mackley and all of her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Barbara (Sneider) Mackley, and sister Ann Mackley. Also, a special thank you to the Toledo Firefighters of Station 21 and Nurse Jimmy at Kingston who often cared for Moe. Friends may call at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., Friday August 8 from 2-8 p.m. where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Rosary Cathedral on Saturday, August 9. Entombment will be in Resurrection cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Maureen's name be made to Rosary Cathedral and/or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
