Larry R. Whitlow

Larry R. Whitlow, Maumee, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Larry was born in Kellysville, WV October 17, 1940. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen and Lawrence Clyburn. He is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Brenda J. Larry and Brenda were high school sweethearts and the love they had did not change during their 63 years of marriage. He graduated from Oakvale High School in Oakvale, WV. Larry played basketball and baseball. Larry was an amazing baseball player. He could have played in the Majors, however, because of his young age they said he could not so he decided to join the Navy in 1959. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis on the USS Independence. He received the Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal, and Armed Forced Expeditionary Medal. Larry and Brenda moved to Ohio in 1963. Larry worked for Textile Leather, Chrysler, other small businesses, and he retired from Toledo Molding & Die in 2010. He was Husband, Dad, Grandfather "Poppy", friend, and much to many people. He was lovingly known as "Lucky Larry" for his abilities while bowling, hitting a baseball from the baseball diamond onto the top of Springfield High School when he was 50 years old, and numerous stories solidify that title. He was a veteran, American Patriot, and loved serving his country. He is also survived by his brothers, Vernon (Rita), Bud (Mary), Morris (Carolyn) Clyburn; sisters, Louise Whichard, Brenda (Bill) Sayball; sons, Steve (Susan), (SFC Ret.) Jeffrey Todd (Swan), Greg (Jennifer); grandchildren, Erica (Matt) Braun, Aaron (Kat), Steven (Lindsay), Jay (Missy), Jill (Colby) Cullison, Derrick, Kyle, Josh (Jessica), David (Casey), Brett (Leslie), Shiane, Alex, Joe, Jane (Kyle) Huffman, Gracie Taylor, Chloe Taylor, and 16 great grandchildren. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH 43614, on Monday, January 23 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A Celebration of life service will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 24 at 9:00 a.m., commencing with full military honors at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations made in memory of Larry R. Whitlow to Wounded Warriors, Wonder Ministries, Holland, OH, or Redemption City Church, Monclova, OH, if you desire.
