Jerry Flahie Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jerry E. Flahie, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Hospice of NW Ohio after a slow decline over the past few years. He will be sorely missed by his loving family. Jerry was born June 19, 1929 to Edward and Anna (Connelly) Flahie, the fifth of six sons. He was a 1947 graduate of Central Catholic High School where he played the trumpet in the band. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. While in Europe he was able to travel and explore his Catholic heritage. Upon honorable discharge, he returned to Toledo and went to work for Owens- Illinois. He worked in the Glass Container Division as a supervisor in corrugated package design, testing and regulations for 34 years, retiring in 1987. Jerry had an unwavering faith in God and was a steady moral compass that made him a wonderful role model to his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel and go camping with his family all over the United States. He was most proud of one trip “six in a sedan to the Grand Can(yon)”. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Charles, Bernard, Edward and Robert. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Bernetta (Fager) Flahie, his four children: Theresa (Rob) Giddens, Daniel (Vicki) Flahie, James (Connie) Flahie and Sharon (Ken) Bucher. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren: Eric Giddens, Gregory Giddens, and Laura Giddens, Nicholas Flahie, Brian Flahie, Kevin (Brittani) Flahie, Sean (Natalie) Flahie, Kerry (Daniel) Stoots, Ryan Flahie, Angie (Kevin) Robinson, Katie Bucher and Kyle Bucher; 2 great grandsons Bentley Flahie and Reid Stoots. One brother, Thomas (Mary) Flahie of Tucson, AZ also survives him. Friends and family may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Wednesday, January 27 from 3-8 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m. The funeral will begin in the mortuary on Thursday, January 28 at 9:30 a.m. with a mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Maumee, Ohio.
