Frances E. "Fran" Link

Frances “Fran” Edna (Trumbull) Link, 89, of Toledo, died peacefully Sunday morning, November 16, 2014 at Pathways at Browning in Waterville. She was born August 7, 1925 in New York City, NY, daughter of the late Gus and Martha (Schmidt) Schweitzer. In 1942 she met Owen Trumbull from Holland, Ohio while he was stationed in New York waiting for his assignment in the Army Air Corp. They corresponded regularly while he was in Europe during WWII. After the war was over, Owen returned to New York and they were married on December 23, 1945, settling in Toledo the following month. Fran worked many years as an executive secretary at the Fort Miami Race Track in Maumee and later at Mill and Factory Supply Company in Toledo. While holding these jobs, Fran also ran the office for Owen’s business in Holland, Owens Machine Shop. Fran and Owen enjoyed playing bridge, helping at church and had an active social calendar. After Owen’s death in 1987, Fran was introduced to John Link by a mutual friend. They enjoyed a two year courtship and were married September 29, 1990. Fran and John enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. They were active grandparents attending the many musicals, dance recitals, and band concerts of their four energetic grandchildren. Fran’s gift of conversation led her to volunteering at the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly MCO, where she was also an active member of the Satellites Auxiliary of UTMC. She was also very active in the Women of the Church groups at Providence Lutheran Church in Holland and Bethel Lutheran Church of Toledo and a member of the Toledo Women’s Club. She will be remembered for her love of dancing, planning fun pool parties and hosting many family get-togethers. Fran was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Owen U. Trumbull and husband of 18 years, John R. Link. She will be missed by her sister, Adele (Eric) Lindholm of Whitestone, New York; brother, Gus (Wanita) Schweitzer of Louisville, Kentucky; daughters, Martha (Dave) Amstutz and Joan (Stuart) Love; grandchildren Susan (Ryan Pliner) Zimmerman, Jeffrey (Melissa) Zimmerman, Melanie (Chad) Poulton and Brooke (Kaveh) Danesh; and great-grandchildren, Zahreen Danesh, Kaveh Danesh, Elizabeth Poulton and Owen Poulton. Fran's family will receive friends at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S Reynolds Rd, Toledo, Ohio. on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Zoar Lutheran Church, 314 E Indiana Avenue, Perrysburg, Ohio . Interment will follow in Springfield Township Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Senior Independence Hospice.
