  • Served in the U.S. Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana for two years as a first and second lieutenant
  • Attended the Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1970 and serving as senior class president
  • Joined the Coyle Funeral Home in 1970
  • Past President of the Toledo Area Xavier Alumni Club
  • Professionally licensed in Ohio as a Funeral Director and Embalmer
  • Served as Chairman of the Board of the Elizabeth Zepf Community Mental Health Center in 1984-85
  • Past President of the Northwest Ohio Funeral Director's Association 1991-94
  • Recipient of the "Silver Slate" award from the Toledo Board of Education for service to Bowsher High School
  • Active member of the Maumee Rotary Club and a past President of Maumee Rotary Club from 1992-93
  • 1994 recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award for exemplary service to Maumee Rotary
  • Past President of the Ohio Funeral Group 1987-88
  • Member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church
  • Served on the Medical College of Ohio Foundation's Board of Trustees as Secretary, from 1984-91
  • Board member, Hospice of Northwest Ohio from 1984-90 serving as both secretary and Board Vice-President
  • Joe has two daughters, Megan and Katie, son Jeremiah and lives in South Toledo with his wife Bonnie
